AudeShantyMen in the limelight!

Success in the Captain Hayet Trophy!

The AudeShantyMen : one of the 8 Laureates in the 2016 edition of the Captain Hayet Trophy, named in memory of the famous French seafarer who, from 1900 onwards began noting the songs sung by sailors as they worked. The fruits of his research were published in 1927 and his book became a seminal work.

Awarded to the AudeShantyMen for "the most inspirational interpretation of a traditional sea shanty"by the panel of distinguished judges after the three rounds of the competition, their highly sought after prize,  a ship in a bottle, (an art form in which the French have long excelled) has been hand crafted by the renowned Henri Rannou, a master of this genre.

The AudeShantyMen are the only British shanty band to have been so honoured in the history of the competition. They are immensely proud to have represented UK shanty singing at so prestigious an event with such conspicuous success.

Ready for Sète!

All systems "GO!" for the AudeShantyMen

The final rehearsal is over and the Crew is in fine fettle - more than ready for the fantastic weekend that awaits them in the Mediterranean port of Sète. This Easter weekend a quarter of a million people are expected to descend on the quays and tall ships of this pretty working port which this year is celebrating 350 years of rich and traditional seafaring history. Our gallant lads will be one of more than 40 bands from all over Europe but they will be the only group proudly to fly the flag for Shanty UK.

They will be doing a main stage concert on Sunday afternoon, singing  extended sets aboard two tall ships, as well as appearing in nine concerts (see below) out and about in the watering holes lining the quays. On Friday they will be taking part in the Captain Hayet Trophy, singing a forebitter and a capstan shanty. Come on down and lend them your support! They'll be delighted to see you. One thing is guaranteed : you'll have a high old time!

Here it is close up!

On the hearts of the AudeShantyMen!

So many of you have asked about our eye-catching new badge that we thought you would appreciate knowing a bit about it!

At its heart lies the famous 12 pointed Languedoc Cross - symbol of this region of France.  Steeped in history, our choice of colours for the centrepiece reflect its turbulent Cathar past : "Sang et Or"- blood and gold, set against the deep blue of the Mediterranean waters which form the southern border of this land. The slogan represents the waves on which the good ship AudeShantyMen sails.

Hope that's helped!

Smartest Shantymen ever!

AudeShantyMen reveal new outfits and logos!

At the Brasserie du Quercorb yesterday the AudeShantymen proudly modelled their new tops and logos specifically designed by Bob Gard and professionally  created by his wife Julie-Ann. A full Crew then entertained the crowd assembled to watch the England vs Wales rugby international in the Six Nations. Excellently crafted beers ensured that spirits remained high - whatever the result.

A milestone event in another way for Bob - pictured here fourth from the left. Having been a conscientious new hand in training for many a month he was promoted to full rating and, as befits a Bristol boy, will adopt the crew name "Plimsoll": not for being "a good sole" or "down at heel"but in recognition of one of that maritime city's most famous nautical sons.
